Gilberto M. Llanto is President of the Philippine Institute for Development Studies. He is Regional Coordinator of the East Asian Development Network, a network of East Asian research institutes under the Global Development Network engaged in policy research and capacity building; Lead Convenor of the Philippine APEC Study Center Network; and Associate Editor of the Philippine Review of Economics. He is Member of the Academic Steering Committee on Financial Inclusion of the International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation (ICMIF United Kingdom), and Member of the Advisory Council of the Microfinance Council of the Philippines. He was formerly Deputy Director-General of the National Economic and Development Authority and President of the Philippine Economic Society. He has a PhD. in Economics from the School of Economics, University of the Philippines. His research interests include public economics, growth economics, financial inclusion, microfinance, regional integration, and infrastructure regulation.
