Martin Gummert is a Senior Scientist in Postharvest Development at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and Leader of the program on extracting more value from rice harvests through improved quality, processing, market systems, and new products. He was first based at IRRI from 1993 to 1997 as Project Coordinator of the GTZ project “Postharvest Technologies for Rice in the Humid Tropics” covering Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines. He then moved to Indonesia as Team Leader of the Indonesian-German Government Co-operation Project Assistance to the Indonesian Agricultural Machinery Industry (ATIAMI), implemented by PEM, Düsseldorf, Germany and funded by GTZ. Mr. Gummert has a degree (Dipl.-Ing. Agr., equivalent to MS in Agricultural Engineering) from Hohenheim University, Germany. He worked at the University in various capacities, including as researcher and project coordinator in a drying project at the Institute for Agricultural Engineering in the Tropics and Subtropics in cooperation with IRRI. Mr. Gummert has published articles in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters, and presented numerous conference presentations selected for publication.
